“Against The Current” & Alex Goot cover “Photograph” (originally by Nickelback). I have always liked this song. I used to sing along with it in the car, and I can’t sing, but hey, when you really love a song, you will sing along. Its just what you do. They got about 17 million views for this song… impressive for a cover! You can make some money doing covers, but you have to funnel some of the money back to the original artists etc. when you do so. When the song is yours, you pull a lot more money of course.
“Against The Current” is also known as “ATC”. They are a rock band with a couple of EPs and a couple of albums too. They got big doing covers on Youtube though. They did some big covers with Alex Goot and Kurt Hugo Schneider (aka KHS). The one above is with just Alex Goot. The next one is ATC again, but with Goot AND Schneider. Here is “Let Me Love You”, originally by Justin Beiber (They got approximately 85M views for this).
Here are the same people (i.e ATC, KHS and Goot) covering “Sorry”, also by Justin Beiber (heading for 43 million views).
Same players again, covering “Counting Stars” by One Republic this time (Heading for 118M views).
That’s a lot of views for cover songs! Their originals seem to mostly be rock-ish (albeit a bit like a pop-rock fusion), and they got much lower hits for those… Just looking at a listing of their videos, the highest one was 25M views, followed by 13M, 12M and then a number of them being between 1 and 5 million views. I wonder why they haven’t thought of trying to assimilate Alex Goot and KHS into their band! Maybe make them very regular collaborators, if they don’t want to join… And maybe they should have even switched to straight pop! If they were able to get a couple of good songs from some big writers, I think they could blow tha funk up!
Here they are with their original song “Gravity”. (25M views)
Later, peeps…
