One of the first posts I came across on Facebook this morning (big up yourself, Alexis) discussed how they always play the same ’80s pop music every year at ‘uptown’ Christmas parties in Jamaica. A couple of songs were suggested, and I had to agree. They always play these songs at the uptown mega-parties, like at the Frenchmen party, for instance. Someone suggested ‘Strange Love’ as one of these songs, but I did not remember it, so I decided to check it out.
I think they are talking about “StrangeLove” by Depeche Mode, from about 1987. Actually, I am sure that’s the one that was being talking about (because having watched the video, I remember the song, and I am sure they played it at those parties), but there are a number of similarly named songs. Here is the Depeche Mode version.
Speaking of other songs with similar names, check out this cover of Depeche Mode’s “StrangeLove” by “Black Math”, put out quite recently, as in like a couple of months ago. Interesting name, Black Math… Again, it sounds to me like they were pulling some green matter when that name was conceived…
Anyway, I love this version of the song! They have slowed the music down quite a bit! If you have a couple whiskeys then sit in a La-Z-Boy, close your eyes and listen to this track, it produces a distinct other-worldly feeling, because you recognise the lyrics and sometimes even the melody, bits and pieces of it, anyway, and it seems so different, and yet strangely familiar. Interesting.
No, I don’t drink so early in the morning. Why do you ask? You’re an inquisitive little critter, aren’t you? And have I mentioned that I am on vacation? ‘Llow me! π
Then there was this interesting audio-only song with a similar name by Halsey. Totally different song! Seems like she did it in 2015. I quite like it! Check it out, why don’tcha, babe!
Talk to you later….
